As soon as summer approaches I start getting query from owners of German Shepherd, Labrador, golden retriever or persian cats for whole body hair cutting to which my obvious answer is no. the way we protect ourselves with additional clothing to escape heat wave similarly your pets hair coat acts like an insulator and protects it from heat. taking off the hair coat would expose the pet to overheating or sunburn. Trimming is different and shaving off is different. Hence summers should never be an excuse for shaving off of hair in your pet. Severe hair matting does require whole body haircut where you can’t move the comb over the fur. Long hair breeds require regular combing and brushing to avoid matting.
